OMD Biography

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, or OMD, was founded in 1978 by Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys and debuted their synth pop sound in Liverpool in the same year. Their debut album in 1980 showcased the band’s raw, melodic synth pop sound and gave OMD their first hit. Their second album “Organisation” was released later that year and launched OMD to commercial success in Europe. That album produced two of the band’s biggest hits, “Enola Gay” and “Souvenir.” Further solidifying their popularity, the 1981 album “Architecture and Morality” is widely considered to be their best album to date. The band split up in 1988, with McCluskey soldiering on with the OMD name but soon gave up after achieving moderate success. The band has since reunited and has been reissuing previous albums with plans on recording with new material.
