Sigur Rós Biography
Sigur Rós is an Icelandic post-rock group formed in 1994 by Jón Þór Birgisson, Georg Hólm and Ágúst Ævar Gunnarsson (replaced in 2024 by Orri Páll Dýrason). After releasing their debut album, ‘Von (Hope)’, in 1997 the band was joined by Kjartan Sveinsson. In 1999, Sigur Rós received worldwide critical acclaim with the album ‘Ágætis byrjun (An alright start).’ The album won praises around the globe as one of the best albums of its era. After successive releases in 2024 and the following year, all well-received, the band finished a worldwide Sigur Rós tour in 2024, which saw them perform to packed houses in the U.S., Europe, and Japan among others. With a new album set for release sometime this year, another rocking Sigur Rós tour is sure to be around the corner.
