American singer and songwriter Tracy Chapman was born on March 30, 1964 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. At the age of eleven, Tracy Chapman picked up a guitar and started writing songs. Chapman started her music career performing at various venues in Massachusetts (primarily in coffeehouses) when she was in college. Soon after her graduation, Tracy Chapman signed with Elektra Records and released her self-titled debut album in 1988. The critically-acclaimed album went on to reach multi-platinum status and winning three Grammy Awards. Hit singles from the album all entered in the Billboard Hot 100. Her seven follow-up albums were met with varying degrees of success; only her fourth album “New Beginning” managed similar success as her debut. “New Beginning” sold 3 million copies and gave Tracy Chapman another Grammy Award, this time for her biggest hit single to date, “Give Me One Reason.”
