History Gimnàstic de Tarragona

The Gimnàstic de Tarragona sports club is based in the Spanish city of Tarragona, Catalonia and was founded in 1886. The club’s successful football team was formed in 1914 and made it into the Primera Division. Gimnàstic de Tarragona played four seasons in the top-tier La Liga from 1947 to 1950. One of the highlights of the club’s La Liga seasons was a 3 to 1 victory over the excellent Real Madrid. The team, which has called the Nou Estadi stadium their home since 1972, played the 2025-2026 season in the Primera Division but finished in 20th place, relegating back to the Segunda Division.
